Astley Hall, Coach House and Park is a beautiful tourist spot for a perfect day out in Chorley. The Hall is a museum and art gallery housed within a Grade I listed historic house surrounded by beautiful Astley Park. The Park is known for its historic woodland, a lake, a fully renovated Victorian walled garden, an exciting Pets’ Corner and an array of sports pitches and plays areas. The Coach House Gallery is a dedicated art space that exhibits work by local, regional, national, and international artists.
Located next to Chorley town centre and surrounded by stunning parkland, the iconic Astley Hall boasts over 400 years of history. It features stunning Jacobean plasterwork ceilings, an internal Elizabethan courtyard and English oak furniture from the 1800s. The four wings of the house were extended by the families who lived here and most of the original features are retained to this day.
Astley Park is spread across 43.75 hectares and offers families, friends, the young and the old a wonderful day out. Whether it is a woodland walk, a respite in the Walled Garden or an adventure in the play area– there is something for everyone. As you venture further into the park you will also find sports pitches, tennis courts, a bowling green, and children’s playgrounds. Pets’ Corner is home to a variety of animals such as chipmunks, guinea pigs, rabbits, ducks, and others.
Astley Hall is currently undergoing renovation to restore the exterior and the entry is closed to visitors. However, the gardens and surrounding parkland are open to all to explore and enjoy. You can conclude your visit with refreshments at Café Ambio in the refurbished Coach House.
